JEAN MAYE – LYRICIST
(And how this music adventure began).
Jean grew up with a love of music facilitate by her Yorkshire grandfather, Alfred. He was a great singer and piano player. During the Second World War, he would perform whenever an opportunity arose and later, played and sang in local clubs in and around Doncaster.
When Jean was young, they had many holidays in Great Yarmouth and Blackpool and the two would get up on stage at the Winter Gardens and sing together.
Sadly, whilst at home, Jean didn’t get the opportunity she craved for to develop her love of music but enjoyed music classes at the school and this is where she wrote her first lyrics and song.
With life taking a different direction on leaving school and home, she has always been fanatical about attending concerts, singing in choirs (although not a singer…), and basically enjoying music and writing lyrics.
In 2009 she won a lyric writing competition in the UK. In recent years, Jean has been writing lyrics again and in 2023, she asked a local piano teacher and jazz pianist, Guy Gardner if he would be interested in reading a set of her lyrics and perhaps composing the music for this.
He immediately said he was up for this adventure!
Later that year, she contacted Carey Andrews, a singer/songwriter she tracked down on various media and folk festival sites. After sending her some lyrics, Carey’s response was also positive so the three of them met at Jean’s and this was the beginning of our music development adventures!
Jean continues to write the lyrics but also assists in the composing and the developments of the songs and produces them at various recording studios.
We have titled our music & duo band, SABLE RIVERS.
GUY GARDNER – MUSICIAN/COMPOSER/AUTHOR
Guy studied piano privately with several renown jazz pianists. He studied composition at Dartington college of arts and later gained a PGCE in post 16 adult education.
For nearly 30 years, Guy has performed nationally with top rank jazz players including Pee Wee Ellis; Roger Beaujolais; Dave O Higgins; Jim Mullen; Derek Nash and Mornington Locket. He has recorded two albums, one featuring his own trio and one with vocalist Sue Hawker.
Guy continues an active performance schedule as well as teaching.

CAREY ANDREWS -SINGER/SONGWRITER/COMPOSER (Also known as Lord Irving)
Carey Andrews is a singer songwriter, pianist and vocalist who comes from a classical training background. She studied classical piano her whole life with Russian training at Millfield School, becoming an Associate of Trinity College London at the age of 16 in Piano and Classical Singing. She then studied a Bachelors of Music with Honours at the University of Edinburgh where she began her operatic and choral career.
She worked for multiple high profile church and cathedral choirs (including St Mary’s and The Robin Chapel in Edinburgh) and was a part of the chamber choir selected from the National Youth Choir of Scotland to sing at Carnegie Hall in New York in 2018.
Following her graduation she started in her career as an original artist and session musician and has been recording and releasing since 2019 throughout the southwest, performing in multiple competitions, festivals and hosting jams and open mics in the local community.

RECORDING STUDIOS
In February 2024, three tracks were recorded at the Barton Studios, Barton-on-Sea, Hampshire.
October 2024 a further six songs were recorded at the Echotown Studios, Dorchester https://echotownstudio.com/
In November 2024, the six songs were mixed and mastered and the previous three songs were remixed and mastered at Echotown Studio.
The nine tracks will be released gradually and hopefully, later released as an album.
